Mark Beatson

Mark Beatson previously worked as the Director of Science and Innovation Analysis at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). His role wass to provide economic and statistics advice within the Department on science and innovation policies. He led the team that produced the economic analysis underpinning the DTI's major review of innovation policy (published in December 2003 as 'Competing in the Global Economy: The Innovation Challenge') and also formed part of the team that drafted the report. He chairs the UK Innovation Survey project board.
Mark is an economist by training. Before working on innovation, he led analytical and policy advice on employment legislation within the DTI. He has previously worked for the UK Department of Employment, the European Commission, the UK Treasury, and the Health and Safety Executive.
