The British Library is the national library of the United Kingdom, and one of the largest in the world. A major research library, it holds over 150 million items from every country in the world, in virtually all known languages, print and digital – from books and manuscripts to maps and sounds.  It is a world-class cultural and intellectual resource and custodian of the nation’s written and spoken heritage, providing unparalleled information services to the academic, business, research and scientific communities.

AIM Research and the British Library have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalise their relationship intending to create over the medium term, and in the context of management research and practice in the UK, an innovative approach to making relevant content available across the UK and to developing a viable approach to the management (including rights management), storage and distribution of such content. This approach will offer the prospect of significantly increased access to appropriate content of the Parties by research communities, management practitioners and policymakers.

The British Library has developed the Management and Business Studies Portal, through which it intends to offer relevant content, including, but not limited to, content from AIM Research. AIM Research has agreed to donate research reports, executive briefings and working papers to the British Library.

  • What the MBS Portal contains

The MBS Portal brings together full text research reports, summaries, working papers, videos and exclusive articles by leading researchers and consultants, enabling timely access to emerging research findings that you can download and read immediately. As well as these digital documents, you'll find details of books, journal articles, reports, websites, datasets, sound recordings, videos and other resources from the British Library's collections that are relevant to your search - all in one easy-to use results list.

The high cost of journal subscriptions means the MBS Portal cannot make the full text of journal articles available free of cost. Your university or a professional body library such as the CMI can provide you with electronic journal articles, or you can order them from the British Library Document Supply service. If you have a British Library Reader Pass, you can read print or digital journals in our reading rooms in London or Yorkshire for free. We are working on a way of offering you the option to download journal articles on a pay-as-you-go basis from the Portal in future.
