Building Engaged Scholarship Capacity for Research Impact

AIM workshop for senior academics with management responsibility for research and research training

28 September 2010
Details:

Led by Professor Andrew Van de Ven, author of the book Engaged Scholarship, from the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota, USA.

10.30-16.00

Committee Rooms 1&2, Glamorgan Building, Cardiff University

This strategically focused workshop is timely: policymakers, funders and practitioners are exerting increasing pressure for UK business and management research to make a stronger impact beyond academe. Therefore, business and management schools need to build their capacity for conducting forms of academic and doctoral research which maximise the potential for impact on practice and policy, via deep engagement with stakeholders at different stages in the research process.

This workshop is designed for senior academics in UK business and management schools with responsibility for academic research, leading research groups, academic staff development and mentoring, doctoral programmes including supervision arrangements, and postgraduate research methods training.

It will provide an unprecedented opportunity to explore strategies for engaged scholarship capacity-building with Professor Andrew Van de Ven, a leading international expert in this area, and with colleagues who have relevant responsibilities in other institutions across the UK.

Attendance at the workshop is free, including a buffet lunch. Up to two participants from the same institution are welcome to attend, to maximise the potential for working together on building institutional capacity during and after the workshop. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, so early application is advised.
