Organization Theory, Perspectives and Prospects Seminar

Organization Theory, Perspectives and Prospects Seminar for Early Career Researchers

        18 February 2010

16 & 18 February 2010

This workshop is organized by AIM Management Practices Fellow Markus Perkmann and Nelson Phillips, Imperial College London, during Royston Greenwood’s stay as a Visiting International Fellow of the Advanced Institute of Management Research (AIM), hosted by Markus Perkmann.

The Seminar explored prominent theories and perspectives in organization and management studies. It outlined and compare the questions and approaches of different theories and illustrated how they have evolved. Attention was given to emerging themes and 'lost' questions.

Particular emphasis was given to: contingency and configuration theories; the behavioural theory of the firm & organizational learning; institutional theory; resource dependence theory; and network theory.

These theories underpin much of what we know about how organizations function, how they change and how they relate to their environment. For management scholars, knowing these theories is essential for being able to contribute to the community of organizational theory.
