Metrics for Service Delivery

Priority Issue - Metrics

This project aims to develop metrics for improved service delivery that can be employed in international comparisons of performance in the public sector, with particular reference to education and health.

Planned Research Activities

-Literature review of theoretical approaches to developing metrics supported by analysis of UK data on education and health, and correspondence with measures abroad.

-Formulation of an agenda for future international comparative research on the measurement of public service provisions.

-Building of a network of academics and policy-makers.

-Overseas advisers: Visiting February/March 2004 Jack Triplett, The Brookings Institution, Hui Wei, The Australian Bureau of Statistics, Barbara Fraumeni, US Bureau of Economic Analysis.

-Methodological Workshop Feb 24/25 to involve also the ONS, the US Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Centre for Health Economics, University of York and representatives of European statistical offices.
